MILFORD, MA — A Milford resident was honored on the field at Fenway Park during a recent Red Sox game as part of Pan-Mass Challenge Night, recognizing both his commitment to cancer fundraising and his personal connection to the fight against the disease.

Bruce Berfield of Milford was celebrated in the PMC Living Proof Bike Parade, where 60 members of the PMC Living Proof Community, riders and volunteers who are currently undergoing or have undergone cancer treatment, cycled around Fenway Park's warning track to cheers from the crowd.

The parade was part of an evening highlighting the Red Sox Foundation's longtime partnership with the Pan-Mass Challenge and the organization's impact on cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This August, Berfield will participate in his eighth Pan-Mass Challenge ride. The cause has become even more meaningful in recent years as cancer has continued to affect members of his family, according to his fundraising page.

Berfield said he is riding this year in memory of his father-in-law, Bob Milewski, who recently died from cancer. He is also riding in support of his nephew's wife, Ashley, a 37-year-old mother of a 2-year-old child who was recently diagnosed with the disease.

"I am sure you all know someone who has been touched by cancer," Berfield wrote on his fundraising page. "You can help hundreds of people fight their fight by donating to my ride this year."

Berfield plans to ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown during the Aug. 1-2 event and has committed to raising $6,000 for cancer research and treatment.

The Pan-Mass Challenge has raised more than $1.125 billion for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since its founding and donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to the institute. The PMC is Dana-Farber's largest single contributor, accounting for 67 percent of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue.

More than 6,000 riders and 4,000 volunteers are expected to participate in this year's event. After raising a record $78 million in 2025, organizers have set a fundraising goal of $79 million for 2026.

"Please help us in any way you can," Berfield wrote. "No donation is too small."
