MILFORD, MA — Milford is set to host some of the state's top American Legion baseball teams later this month.
The 2026 Department of Massachusetts Senior State Tournament is coming to town. The Milford Legion Baseball Club and Milford Post 59 will host the eight-team tournament from July 25 to July 29 at Fino Field, 100 Grant St.
The Massachusetts American Legion Baseball Committee accepted Milford Post 59’s bid to host the Senior Championship Tournament, according to Massachusetts American Legion Baseball.
The last time Milford hosted the state tournament was in 2022. The club has won 11 state championships in its 97-year history, most recently in 2014, and has made three American Legion World Series appearances: 1951, 1952 and 2001, according to the team.
The winner of the Massachusetts tournament will move on to American Legion regional play. Shrewsbury will host both the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regionals from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9. The eight regional champions will then advance to the 99th American Legion World Series from Aug. 13 to Aug. 18 at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina.
The tournament schedule and participating teams are expected to be released next week.
Milford Legion Baseball, sponsored by American Legion Post 59, will also celebrate its 100th season in 2029. The program has won 33 zone titles and has long described its reputation in the community as one built on “Pride and Tradition.”
“Pride, legacy and history — Milford is a different group of players,” President Emeritus Chris Morcone said. “There’s a certain distinction when your name is called and you’re on the team.”
Morcone’s father, Pep, was captain of Milford’s first team in 1929, according to the club. Morcone can often be found at home games along the right field line.
“It’s not just a baseball legacy in Milford,” Club President Cindy Stulac said. “It’s a community legacy.”
