Beloved Milford Police K-9 To Retire After Hundreds Of Deployments

MILFORD, MA — One of the Milford Police Department's most recognizable members will complete his final shift this week.

K-9 Titan will retire on Friday after participating in more than 230 field deployments, according to the department. Fellow officers and K-9 teams from Milford and surrounding communities will gather at noon for a retirement celebration and Titan's ceremonial final radio call.

Titan received national attention in April 2025 after helping Officer Brian Sanchioni locate a missing 8-year-old autistic child who is nonverbal. Titan tracked the child to a body of water, where the boy was found clinging to a small tree before being brought to safety.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund later named Sanchioni and Titan its Officers of the Month for April 2025. The organization said the team's actions demonstrated the importance of training, trust and teamwork during high-stakes incidents.

Sanchioni and Titan were also honored by the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in October 2025. They appeared on the stadium's video board and met Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Mike Vrabel.

Titan continued working through this summer. During a July deployment, he tracked and located a person experiencing a mental health crisis in the woods near Upper Purchase Street.
