MILFORD, MA — A longtime court clerk-magistrate in Milford was recognized following nearly three decades of service to the state court system.
Milford District Court Clerk-Magistrate Thomas Carrigan was honored upon his retirement after 28 years of service, State Rep. Brian Murray announced Monday. District Court Chief Justice Stacey J. Fortes and Milford District Court First Justice Richard A. Eustis joined the recognition.
Carrigan also received citations from the Massachusetts House and Senate, presented on behalf of state Rep. Kate Donaghue and state Sen. Robyn Kennedy, Rep. Murray said.
Carrigan's work included managing the clerk's office, maintaining court records and overseeing the court calendar. Clerk-magistrates also conduct show cause hearings and determine whether probable cause exists to issue criminal complaints.
Clerks and assistant clerks issue warrants, search warrants, and summonses. Magistrates may also set bail during the court day when a judge is unavailable.
"Thank you Tom for your great work and all the best as you enter this next chapter of your life," Rep. Murray said in the announcement.
