Milford resident Alberto A. Correia was recently selected as one of nine recipients statewide of the Heritage Day of Portugal Award, according to a written statement from the office of Rep. John Fernandes (D-Milford). Correia was honored at the event’s 27th Anniversary held on June 7th at the Massachusetts State House, the statement said.
"Correia was nominated and selected based on his decades of experience helping people of Portuguese descent in the area learn to acclimate to a new country, and for his numerous voluntary endeavors throughout the community and the region," the statement said. "Correia, the Executive Vice President of Business Alliances at Cambridge Biomedical, maintains strong roots in Milford, where he lives with his wife Sharon, a biotech communications professional, and their two daughters, Alexis, a teacher in Milford, and Emily, who is a biology student at the College of the Holy Cross."
According to the statement, Correia has served as mayor of the Prospect Heights of Milford, "an organization in existence for over 50 years and dedicated to the ideal that recently arrived Portuguese families and families from five other countries can live together harmoniously in one thriving neighborhood. In addition to his extensive business travels over the years, which has taken him to such diverse localities as France, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Soviet Union, Correia has been actively involved in local public service, religious and charitable activity, regional musical appreciation, and many distinguished areas of community service."

He is also active as a Board member of the Holy Cross Club of Worcester and as a member of the Knights of Columbus and "still finds the time to play hockey two nights a week."
“It was a special honor for me to nominate Al Correia for this recognition,” Rep. Fernandes said in the statement. “He exhibits all of the selfless character traits and positive qualities that everyone in the Commonwealth, regardless of his or her nationality, can appreciate and value as he is the epitome of a well-rounded, civic, minded and charitable citizen.”
