Black Friday, not Black Thursday Night
Several large retailers pushed back their announced Black Friday openings in Milford, to 1 a.m., after they realized that Massachusetts labor law would prevent a midnight start.

Black Friday is pushing ever closer to Thanksgiving, but it remains this year an early-the-next-morning event for committed shoppers.
Several national retailers initially planned to open their doors at midnight Thursday. But Massachusetts law put the kibosh on that. A law dating to the 1800s prevents workers from working before midnight Thanksgiving, giving employers no time to prepare for a midnight opening.
In Milford, both Best Buy and Target will open at 1 a.m. Friday, an hour later than initially announced. Best Buy will remain open until 10 p.m. Friday, while Target will close Friday at 11 p.m.

At Target, many shoppers weren't waiting for the traditional start to the Christmas shopping season. The store was crowded Wednesday afternoon with people checking out dolls, toys and boxed games, along with the popular dollar aisle.
The stores' sales for Black Friday should be available online, by Thanksgiving night.
