Project Star Hopedale is a town-wide effort to support our troops in Afghanistan with a collection of snacks and sundries. Three years ago Union Evangelical Church sent their first packages to a serviceman connected with the church. Now we work with chaplains at Camp Leatherneck who serve as in-country contacts. The chaplain identifies and distributes the items twice yearly. During the month of May donations will be accepted at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Atria Draper Place, Union Evangelical Church, and the schools. Additional supporters are the Hopedale Unitarian Parish, the Hopedale Community House, the Junior Senior High Student Council, the Hopedale Police and Fire departments, the Boy Scout Troop 1 and Hopedale Girl Scouts and town officials.
Donations include only the following: Wet wipes, shaving cream, shampoo, body wash, snacks (no melting candy), ice pops, moisturizing eye drops and water bottle flavor packets (i.e. Crystal Light). Donations of cash are appreciated to help with mailing. Each pre-pay box we mail costs ~ $13 – and we anticipate a large mailing.

Memorial Day is May 28th this year. A U.S. Army reserve tent will be erected in the area of the Unitarian Parish lawn and Community House between the hours of 8 am and 2:30 pm. We will be accepting last minute donations of items and cash, and also will be packing boxes, writing letters to troops, drawing pictures, and having some FREE fun.
Come and be part of the effort on Memorial Day before or after the parade. We will be selling cold bottled water, cookies and other items to fund-raise for postage.
