"Reach for the Stars" Performed by EXPRESS Dance

More than 500 dancers performed at a spring recital "Reach for the Stars" organized by the EXPRESS Dance & Acrobatics studio.

recently presented three shows for its 6th annual spring dance recital. Entitled “Reach for the Stars,” more than 500 dancers performed in a variety of dances and stunning costumes in front of sold out crowds.

There were two shows held at the on Saturday, May 19 and one show for competition team members on Sunday, May 20.

The 500 dancers that took to the stage were of different ages ranging from as young as three to 18 years old. The students danced a variety of styles — lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, and acrobatics, open and contemporary. At the conclusion of the EDA Team recital there was an emotional goodbye to six students who will be graduating this year. This year’s graduating seniors are Melissa Tobin, MariKate Mulready and Courtney O’Brien all from Milford; Heather and Megan Kaswandik of Uxbridge; and Cassandra Thibault of Bellingham.  

At EXPRESS, artistic Directors Cheryl Johnson and Michelle Touhey along with their distinguished and dedicated staff, teach the fundamentals of dance and acrobatics, with an emphasis on commitment, education, safety, and fun in a healthy and loving environment. Recreational dance and acrobatics classes are fun, challenging, and a great way to meet new friends! Ranging from beginner to advanced levels, classes are offered in almost all styles of dance. Students may choose from multiple classes in various dance styles.

The EXPRESS Dance & Acrobatics Performance Team is a competitive dance team. The co-ed team currently consists of over 100 members ranging from 4 to 19 years old. Members hail from Milford, Mendon, Uxbridge, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Holliston, Upton, Bellingham, Blackstone, Franklin, Northbridge, Ashland and Millis. The Express Dance performance team will be traveling to Virginia Beach this summer to compete in the Star Quest National Dance Competition.

With the conclusion of their annual spring recital, EXPRESS Dance and Acrobatics has finished its 2011-12 dance season. However, that doesn’t mean students have to stop dancing or tumbling over the summer. EXPRESS offers Summer Acrobatic Classes on Tuesdays, weekly themed Summer Fun Camps and Summer Intensive Dance and Acrobatic Classes for students interested in competition teams.
