4 Pets Die In Milford House Fire

The cause of a two-alarm fire centered around an East Street home in Milford was still under investigation on Wednesday.

MILFORD, MA — No one was injured in a that destroyed an East Street home in Milford on Tuesday, but four cats did die in the fire, according to Milford fire officials.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at the 2-1/2 story home west of the downtown area. The fire likely started on the exterior of the home, then entered the basement. The fire climbed up the walls of the home and up into the attic, Fire Chief William J. Touhey, Jr. said.

Firefighters at first attacked the home from the inside, but had to leave the home due to structural concerns. The fire was mostly out by around 3:30 p.m.

Investigators with the state fire marshal's office responded to the scene. But as of Wednesday morning, an exact cause of the fire was unknown.

Four people lived in the home, and three were at home when the fire broke out. They escaped the home before firefighters arrived. No firefighters were injured.
