On Jan. 1 around 3 a.m., police in Milford received a 911 call from a Paula Road resident reporting a male that indicated that another male was following him and threatening to shoot him.

While checking the area, Officer Russell Poissant located Silveira after noticing a motion sensor light turn on. When Poissant asked Silveira how he could help him, Silveira lunged at a passing motor vehicle. When Poissant attempted to stop him, Silveira allegedly punched the police officer in the throat and began to gouge Poissant’s eye with his thumb and choke him. As Officer Poissant called for backup, Silveira bit his left hand.

When officers arrived to assist Poissant, they found him on top of Silveria in the street, but Poissant was unable to access any of his protective equipment because Silveira had wrapped his legs around the officers’ torso, rendering him unconscious.

Poissant was transported by ambulance to the Milford Regional Medical Center where he was treated for injuries to his airway, a serious injury to his eye, biting injuries and cuts and abrasions.
