Blackstone Man Guilty Of Strangling Elderly Father To Death

Glen Armstrong also served prison time for for threatening to kill then-President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.

WORCESTER, MA — Glen R. Armstrong, 50, was found guilty on Thursday of murdering his 83-year-old father over two years ago in Blackstone, District Attorney Joseph Early said. Armstrong was found guilty on a first-degree murder charge which holds a mandatory life sentence without parole. Armstrong has had brushes with the law before — he served prison time in the 1990s for threatening to kill then-President Bill Clinton.

Armstrong's father, Walter Armstrong, was found dead in their shared, Blackstone home in January 2017. The next day, police arrested Armstrong on a warrant in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. He drove to New Jersey in his father's truck after the murder, but ran out of gas in Mount Laurel, officials said.

The case moved to Worcester Superior Court after Armstrong was indicted for murder in June 2017.

According to the DA's office, an autopsy showed his father died of multiple blunt trauma and asphyxia by ligature strangulation. During the trial, the jury was told Armstrong's father was found with a bag over his head and a belt securing the bag. Armstrong's fingerprints were found on the bag, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

“I hope the family of Walter Armstrong can find some measure of closure from this verdict,” Early said.
