Meet and Greet the Goats: MSPCA Sets Up Time to Meet the 46 Adoptable Goats
The MSPCA received one of its biggest animal surrenders ever; 46 goats need homes. More than 200 people have inquired so far.
MASSACHUSETTS—A record number of goats-in fact the largest ever single surrender to the MSPCA-Nevins Farm-started coming in on May 12, when 35 of them were transported to the farm. Another 11 followed in the subsequent days. They included babies, youngsters and adults.
The 46 goats came from a farm in western Massachusetts, where the owner became overwhelmed with caring for the animals.
The MSPCA put out a plea this week looking for homes. And the response so far has been overwhelming.

"There has been a tremendous response from the public and I'm so grateful," said spokesperson Rob Halpin.
The Nevins Farm team has received more than 200 emails and phone calls since the story broke. The team is asking for patience as they work through all of calls and emails, and will be responding to everyone who has reached out
Halpin added that Nevins Farm has spent north of $3,000 caring for the goats. This includes food, fencing for a new paddock area for the herd, medicine and other veterinary care. If readers would like to contribute toward the cost of caring for the goats, and animals like them, they can consider a tax deductible donation to the Equine and Farm Animal Adoption Center.

And for the first time in its history, the Nevins Farm team is setting aside goat-specific "meet and greet" time this Saturday, May 28. Timing is TBD but likely from 10 a.m. to noon at MSPCA-Nevins Farm at 400 Broadway in Methuen. The team will be updating adopters as soon as timing is confirmed. This will serve as a pre-screening event; Nevins Farm will accept applications, secure adopter references and review home environment scenarios to ensure they are safe and comfortable for goats.
Halpin also said that several of the female goats are likely to give birth soon.
