Milford Health Officials Advise Residents To Cover Their Faces

As town officials continue to cope with the spread of coronavirus, Milford residents are advised to use cloths to cover their faces outside.

MILFORD, MA —Milford health officials are strongly recommending that residents wear cloth face coverings at any time when they are outside of their homes as the town attempts to reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus. This recommendation is made for residents regardless if they are away from their homes in an indoor or outdoor setting and regardless if the place is privately or publicly owned. Local health officials warn that face-covering actions should be done when residents are outside for any reason in addition to reminding residents to maintain proper social distancing of six feet or more.

The Milford Youth Center has given out 600 masks to families, employees, senior citizens and volunteers as efforts continue to cope with the ongoing pandemic. Health board members said that masks may be made from bandanas, T-shirts, napkins and other cloths that have been washed and dried on high heat. Health officials stress that cloth coverings should be used in order to provide healthcare professionals and first responders access to surgical masks and N-95 respirators.

This advisory, issued by the Milford Board of Health on Thursday, applies to all residents with very few exceptions. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
