Milford Police Start 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' Campaign

Police remind residents to use a designated driver, taxi or public transportation when drinking.

With the holidays quickly approaching and an expected increase in drunk-driving-related incidents towards the end of the year, police in Milford recently announced plans to keep run extra patrols as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

“Drunk driving is a choice you make, and when you make that choice, people may get injured and killed,” said Lt. James Falvey in a release. “The safest and best way to get home is to never drink and drive. If you plan on drinking at the holidays, take a taxi or public transportation or hand the keys over to a sober person.

Milford joins over 200 other communities participating in the program, which is funded by a federal grant administered through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division.

Last year, 133 people were killed in crashes that involved impaired drivers according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“We can’t stand to see any tragic loss of life,” added Falvey “One of the most difficult calls for any police officer on the job is making that house call and telling a family that their loved one is gone because someone chose to drink and drive. That’s why, leading up to the holidays, we will show zero tolerance for drunk drivers on the road. Please find a safe and sober ride home.”
