Police Log: MFD Responds to Fire Alarm at Exotic Foods on Sumner Street

Thursday, Aug. 21

At 12:07 a.m., a driver for Arts Towing informed police that he struck a cat while driving in the area of West Street and Asylum Street and requested police assistance, as the cat was still reportedly alive.

At 1:24 a.m., Milford fire crews responded to The Exotic Foods on Sumner Street on a report of a fire alarm. Crews found nothing showing upon arrival to the two-story commercial building and later discovered the building had a water-flow switch activated; the key holder of the building was requested to the scene to help investigate further.

At 2:08 a.m., a caller reported hearing a loud bang outside her home on Blanchard Street; officers determined the noise to be from a single-car crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene; no injuries were reported.

At 12:30 p.m., a caller reported a two-car accident in the area of the Mobil station on Rte. 109.

At 3:09 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Fruit Street. One vehicle sustained damage to a mirror.

At 3:33 p.m., a caller reported youths were throwing items at cars in the parking lot of the 99 Restaurant. Officers removed the group from the area.

At 4:10 p.m., officers responded to West Street to remove a hypodermic needle found in the area.

At 5:39 p.m. the Milford Highway Department reported metal plates were sinking into the road and requested an officer to ensure drivers did not cross it. The plates were subsequently covered.

At 6:18 p.m., a caller reported that some of her children’s toys had been stolen. Officers responded to check with neighbors.

At 8:31 p.m., a man reported to police that his wife’s vehicle was hit in the parking log of the Milford Mandarin Restaurant on East Main Street. The vehicle sustained minor damage.

At 8:36 p.m., staff at Pizza 85 on Cedar Street reported that a previous worker entered the eatery and asked for money before throwing items at the owner. The former employee then reportedly left through the back door. Officers responded to the area to look for the individual.
