Police Log: Reported Gunshots on Wildwood Drive Revealed to be Kids with Fireworks

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Monday, Aug. 11

At 7:42 a.m., the Milford Fire Department responded to a report of second-floor smoke alarms sounding at The Children’s Corner on Cunniff Avenue.

At 10:05 a.m., a caller reported to Milford police that a two-car accident had occurred in the area of West Street. Upton police were also on scene and reported injuries as a result of the accident.

At 11:54 a.m., a caller reporting to police that a vehicle passing him clipped his mirror. Investigating officers determined the accident had happened in Bellingham and reported that the drivers were to work the matter out themselves.

At 12:01 p.m., a female individual entered the Milford Police Department to report that her parked vehicle was involved in an accident. Police issued a summons to Maria Quizhpi, 29, of Milford, for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

At 1:53 p.m., police arrested James Fullum, 21, of Milford, on a warrant.

At 2:07 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle had crashed into a pole on East Main Street. Police and fire crews were dispatched to the area, and National Grid was notified of the accident. One person was transported to the hospital.

At 2:49 p.m., police received a report from staff at Kohl’s that one man had been in custody for alleged shoplifting.

At 4:14 p.m., a caller reported that her vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident while parked in the lot at Rite Aid on Medway Road.

At 4:57 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle was driving erratically in the area of Cedar Street.

At 5:01 p.m., a female individual reported that her vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Central Street.

At 7:04 p.m., a caller reported a large hole in the roadway on Haven Street due to construction going on in the area. The caller claimed the front end of his vehicle had been damaged due to the hole and that construction crews should have warning signs on the road. Officers responded, drove the length of the street and found no problem and also viewed multiple signs indicating the road conditions, according to police logs.

At 8:02 p.m. a caller reported that the construction company working on Haven Street did not even out the end of his driveway to the street. Officers told the caller that this was an issue to discuss with the Milford Highway Department.

At 10 p.m., a caller reported hearing about eight gun shots go off in the area behind his home on Wildwood Drive. Two other callers reported the gunshots; officers spoke with youths behind the area who were shooting off fireworks.
