Police to Charge Milford Student for Making Bomb Threat

Families have been notified of the incident, Superintendent Robert Tremblay said.

A student was removed from Milford's Middle School East Monday and will face charges after allegedly making a bomb threat against the building, Milford Public School Superintendent Robert Tremblay said Tuesday.

"It did stem from a rumor," Tremblay told Milford Patch. "We wanted to make sure we did a full, thorough investigation."

Investigation into the alleged threat began Monday afternoon, around 1:54 p.m., after a teacher at Middle School East notified administration that the 14-year-old student had made a comment about bombing the school.

The student in question was subsequently removed from the student population immediately, and brought to an administration area where a staff and Milford police resource officers obtained a statement.

"The student's parent was called to the school, made aware of the circumstances of the investigation and after conferring with the administrator and the school resource officers, took the child home," Tremblay said in a press statement Tuesday, adding that Middle School East families have been notified of the matter.

By 3:10 p.m. Monday, five studnets had been interviewed, "without concrete findings," Tremblay said. Investigations resumed Tuesday, when juvenile officers and administration were able to obtain concrete information during an additional interview, Tremblay said.

"The student was made aware of the situation, as was the parent of the student," he said. "Administration, officers and the school psychologist worked collaboratively to secure immediate services for the student."

The student, he added, left the building accompanied by a parent, and the Milford Police Department will be charging the teen for making a bomb threat and disturbing the school assembly.

The school's "2014 Step Up Ceremony" is currently planned to take place from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 19.
