Puppy Tumbles From Third-Floor Window, Needs Home

This lucky puppy is recovering at the MSPCA's Nevins Farm and needs a forever home.

MASSACHUSETTS — A puppy escaped serious injury after she fell from a third floor window and now is hoping for a forever home.

Luca fell to the ground when a top-floor window without a screen was left open at her home in Haverhill, MA, in late February. After the spirited pup fell, her owners opted to surrender the eight-pound pit-bull mix.

She didn't suffer very serious injuries after dropping more than 20 feet, but had some issues.

"She had some bruising and needed supplemental oxygen for a day because breathing proved a bit difficult," said Mike Keiley, director of the Noble Family Animal Care and Adoption Center at Nevins Farm, in a statement. "But to come through this with no neurological damage or broken bones is a surprising-and surprisingly happy-outcome."

Luna's hanging with a foster family for the time being because of her tender age, and because it is more comfortable.

"She's made friends with the resident dog named Foster and she'll be ready to be placed in a permanent home in about two weeks," said Keiley in the announcement.

Luna will be spayed as soon as she is fully recovered and before she's found her permanent home. She is currently enrolled in Nevins Farm's Puppy Play and Learn training class, which will grow her social skills and prepare prime her for learning new behaviors in the months and years ahead.

"She loves the interaction with trainers, volunteers and other dogs and she's gaining confidence and skills that make her that much more attractive to would-be adopters," said Keiley.
