MILFORD, MA — Things have come full circle for RJ Sheedy since 2019.

The 25-year-old Milford High School graduate was picked on Monday night as the new School Committee member to replace James Ligor, who stepped down in July. It was Ligor who bested Sheedy in the 2019 spring election by about 100 votes in a six-way School Committee race.

Sheedy came back in 2021 to run for School Committee, but lost again to incumbents Meghan Hornberger and Christopher Wilson. Newcomer Matthew Zacchilli picked up an open seat.

The Select Board and School Committee met in joint session Monday to pick Ligor's replacement from five people who applied. Robyn Bratica, Margaret McIsac, Brendan Rickert (who ran for School Committee in 2020) and Douglas Parke were the other four choices.

Many in Milford may already know Sheedy. He's been a Town Meeting member since 2018, and produces several shows on for Milford TV. He became interested in a seat on the School Committee while recording the meetings for the public access station.

"All I can say right now is thank you to both boards for putting their trust in me with this responsibility, and I’m honored at this opportunity to finally serve on the school committee," Sheedy said Tuesday morning. "I’m really looking forward to working with and learning from everyone I serve with for the next few months, and hopefully years to come."

Sheedy says he will run for a full term in the spring 2022 Milford election.
