Town Has Possible Plans to Buy Milford Water Company

The town has had the option to buy the company for years, but may follow through starting with moves beginning the coming year.

MILFORD, MA — The town has long been able to purchase the Milford Water Company, but in the coming year, the town is possibly looking to follow through with buying the company.

A town meeting article to purchase the Milford Water Company will possibly be put forth next year, reports the Daily Milford,with Selectman Chairman Bill Buckley telling the newspaper that the town hopes to make progress at the start of the year.

The price would be negotiated by a town meeting vote, with the Milford Water Company's assessed value at $19 million.

On Dec. 10, the Milford Water Company alerted residents that if "you are experiencing discolored water it is because of a pump failure at the Dilla Street pump station. "

A Milford resident complained to Milford Daily News that the water company has had a poor reputation for years, and he won't drink the tap water.

The Milford Water Company dates back to 1881, when a corporation was formed for the purpose of introducing water into the town.
