Dinosaur Update: that's Dino, a Sinclair Dinosaur

Here's something Milford can claim as an asset. All around the country, these big guys are disappearing. We're told the dinosaur has been there since this was a Sinclair station.

Updated: This post has invited some amusing responses. On Facebook, a few of our readers admitted they hadn't even noticed the dinosaur. Others remember it well from childhood. Someone wanted to know what happened to the big red shoe. That might be a subject for another post.

The owner of told us the property used to be a gas station. At one point, it was operated by Sinclair, a Utah-based corporation that featured a green brontosaurus as its mascot. Some of the gas stations started featuring these model dinosaurs, back in the 1960s. Many have disappeared from the landscape, upsetting many people, as this blog points out from St. Louis. The blog links to another site, a photo gallery of Sinclair Dinosaurs, including a shot of ours.

The Milford brontosaurus has a name: Dino. The current shop owners say they sometimes think about stringing lights on him, at Christmas, but so far have decided to leave him be.

Curiosity has inspired today's Question of the Day. I'm new to town, so have no clue why this dinosaur is on the roof of Accurate Auto Care.

Anyone know why this big guy is watching over us on East Main Street? And has he ever disappeared, and reappeared somewhere else, like the cattle of Hilltop Steak House?

I stopped in, and got the scoop from the owner of Accurate, but am wondering how well you all know your town. So today's Question of the Day is really three questions.

First question: Why is he up there? Second: What's his name? Third: What kind of a dinosaur is this?
