Abandoned Paper Mill Catches Fire On Milton, Boston Border

Boston and Milton firefighters worked to put out the fire at the old paper mill Monday morning, Boston firefighters said.

MILTON, MA — Firefighters put out a fire at an abandoned building - they later discovered was the old Mattapan Paper mill behind the Price Rite in the wooded area along the Truman Parkway Monday morning.

Boston fire officials said no injuries were reported in the fire, but no word on what may have caused the fire.

Someone reported smoke in the wooded area opposite 366 Truman Parkway at 7:38 a.m. along the Milton and Boston border. Boston firefighters responded and by 10 a.m. had the fire mostly put out and were checking for hot spots in the building that now appears to only house some train tracks and much graffiti.

"At one time, the plant covered much of the grounds on either side of the river; after the plant shut down, a developer tore down most of the buildings on the Boston side and put up the beginnings of a new mall that now includes the supermarket and a bank,"reported Adam Gaffin.
