Airplane Issues To Be Addressed At Milton Select Board Meeting

Update on the ongoing debate about the impact of Logan Airport air traffic noise on the town will be addressed Wednesday night.

MILTON, MA — The Milton Select Board will dedicate a portion of its Wednesday night meeting to a public information and listening session regarding airplane issues out of Logan Airport and how they are impacting the town. The discussion will take place during the first part of the meeting that starts at 7 p.m. at the Council on Aging.

Tensions between the town and the airport ticked up further in December when the FAA confirmed that an inflatable evacuation slide from a Delta flight from Paris fell off on its approach and landed in a Milton backyard. U.S. Rep. Steven Lynch said following that incident that residents of Milton and surrounding communities should not have "to live in fear of debris falling from the sky."

The congressman said he asked to meet with FAA officials, along with State Sen. Walter Timilty, for an explanation of what happened and to urge for further review of flight paths that he said "have been plaguing Milton and nearby communities with relentless airplane noise and pollution for years."

Last month, the Milton Select Board dedicated a meeting to discussing the Federal Aviation Administration's environmental assessment for a proposed area navigation approach procedure for Runway 4 Left at Logan Airport. While the FAA determined in a 2015 study that the RNA would not cause a significant increase in noise impact, Milton residents have been outspoken about noise that flight paths to Logan already cause in the town.
