Cold Chickens Get Knitted Sweaters from Retirees
As unusual as it sounds, some birds in Milton recently received some new winterwear.

MILTON, MA — A group of chickens are keeping warm this winter thanks to a knitting club in Milton.
The odd-sounding project began after a group of knitters at the Fuller Village retirement community heard of some of the problems chickens suffer during the winter. That led to a partnership with the Mary M.B. Wakefield Charitable Trust to knit sweaters for the chickens.
One bird showed by Trust representative Erica Max to the Associated Press was a native to Malaysia, a country with a noticeable difference in temperate at this time of the year.

Members of the group told the AP that some laughed at the idea but the initiative has been nothing short of a success. One knitter named& Libby Kaplan said the partnership helped her overcome her fear of birds.
So far, the chickens seem to enjoy their new winter gear. Max says egg production has gone up since they started sporting the sweaters.
