Coronavirus: Milton Postpones Town Election To June 9
The election, originally scheduled for April 28, is being moved due to the coronavirus pandemic state of emergency.
MILTON, MA — The Milton Select Board has postponed the annual town election from April 28 to June 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The moving of town elections in the state were made possible through the Acts of 2020 authorized by Gov. Charlie Baker and the state legislature last week.
The provision allows for cities and towns to delay elections held through June 30 in response to a declared state of emergency.
As part of the postponement, incumbent elected officials whose terms would have expired at the town election will serve until a successor is elected and qualified. Voter registration deadlines have been extended until May 29. All printed ballots, including absentee and official, are allowed to have the original election date if already printed, but Milton ballots were not printed and will have June 9 printed on them.

Any absentee ballot already returned for the original election will be counted toward the new election. Milton has not had any absentee ballots returned for the town election, so this is moot. The deadline to apply for absentee ballots has been extended to June 8 at noon. Early voting by mail is allowed providing that a written, signed request, or letter signed by the voter or very close family member, is received by the deadline.
Once a voter has voted via early ballot, that voter cannot vote at the polls or receive an absentee ballot.
