Dog Sitter Accused of Leaving Quincy Dog in 'Deplorable Conditions'

Quincy, MA — A dog sitter for a Quincy resident has been accused of leaving a dog in deplorable conditions.

Joe Hingston told the Patriot Ledger that he had hired a sitter for his dog from the DogVacy phone app, but when he returned from his week-long vacation in Mexico, he found his aging dog Sully had several open wounds, lost 10 pounds, had an ear and bladder infection, and was in a pool of urine and feces. Hingston added that the woman also took about $100 from an envelope for a firefighter's funeral fund.

The sitter will be asked to appear in Quincy District Court to hear the potential charges of animal cruelty, larceny from a building and malicious destruction of property. Police have not released the sitter's identity because she has not been charged.

DogVacy said in a statement that they are investigating the matter and that the sitter went through a background check. The sitter has been removed from the app, according to WHDH.

The dog sitter called the accusations lies and said she would "leave it with my lawyer" in a Facebook post.
