Five-Mile Scramble to Honor Milton Juvenile Detective
The M.A.D. Scramble on Thursday will benefit a memorial fund for Michael A. Devin who died in an automobile accident in 2006.
The M.A.D. Scramble, a five mile cross country race to honor Michael A. Devin, a juvenile detective for the Milton Police Department who died in a car accident in 2006, will be held July 1.
The race will begin at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday at Pierce Middle School and travel a scenic, multi-terrain route on roads as well as the gravel paths, trails and open fields hugging Turner's Pond and the Pine Tree and Trout Brook areas before returning to the school.
Devin was a 1967 Milton High School graduate. He went on to attend the Police Academy and served in the Vietnam War as a Marine. At the time of his death, in addition to being a juvenile detective in Milton, he served as a deputy sheriff in Norfolk Country and the residency officer for the Milton Public Schools. He was also the father of three.

The second annual event will benefit the M.A.D. Memorial Fund, which provides a scholarship to one Milton High School student annually. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is continuing their education and has overcome academic or social hardships like many of the students Devin worked with.
