UPDATE: Glover Elementary Teacher Killed by Flying Manhole Cover

Caitlin Clavette, an art teacher at Glover Elementary in Milton, was the woman killed by an airborne manhole cover Friday on I-93 South.

MILTON, MA - The woman killed Friday by a manhole cover that had become dislodged on I-93 South was identified as an art teacher at Glover Elementary School in Milton.

Caitlin Clavette was driving when a manhole cover became airborne and went through both her windshields, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the Milton Public Schools superintendent’s office issued a release on the death of the teacher.

“Ms. Clavette was a graduate of Winchester High School, received her Bachelor’s degree in Art from the College of William and Mary and her Masters from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,” it states. “Over the course of her career in Milton, Ms. Clavette has taught in all four of our elementary schools.”

The Milton Public Schools are providing support for any parent or guardian in the district who wishes to meet and ask questions as to how to communicate Ms. Clavette’s death to their child or children. Counseling is also being offered to all faculty and staff.

“Ms. Clavette was a talented and special educator who has touched the lives of many students and families over the past four years in the Milton Public Schools,” school officials stated.

The Glover School Parent Teacher Organization issued a statement on its Facebook page about the death of the beloved art teacher.

“Shocking news about Glover’s beloved art teacher, Caitlin Clavette, who was tragically killed in a car accident, this morning,” the message stated. “Tomorrow parents ( not students) welcome to come to Glover at 11am as grief counselor, Maria Trozzi, will be available via Skype. Miss Clavette was loved by her many students and she inspired a love of art in our children. She will be greatly missed in our community.”

Milton Public Schools had no immediate comment.
