Cunningham Students Visit State House
fifth-grade students toured the Massachusetts State House on May 19. Accompanied at times by Senator Brian Joyce and Representative Walter Timilty, the students learned about State House history and architecture. Students even sat in the Senate chambers, where Rep. Timilty taught about the room’s history and the legislative process.

The fourth and fifth grade students at gave their spring concert on Tuesday, June 14. Patricia Ostrem and Gary Good directed the String Ensemble and Band, respectively, and music teacher Colleen Martin led the fourth and fifth grade classes on recorder and in song. Featured selections were the theme from the “New World” Symphony on recorder, and American song favorites “Down by the Riverside” and “Oh Susanna.”
MPS Bus Registration Due Tuesday

Bus registration forms and payment are due no later than this Tuesday, June 21. Parents may register and pay online with a $10 discount per student by emailing transportation coordinator Pam Dorsey at pdorsey@miltonps.org by Tuesday. Now that’s a ride home!
Oak Street was abuzz with excitement on Friday, June 11, when Milton Fire Engine 4 appeared at dismissal time to give a few lucky students a ride home. Tucker students Tim and Dana Cummings, grades 4 and 2, had won a raffle at the “Salute the Arts” event on May 21, and the firefighters had come to deliver their prize. Tim, Dana, and a couple of friends boarded the bright red engine, and slowly made their way home with lights flashing and sirens wailing.
SMOTH Spring Concert
held its spring concert on June 14 at St. Mary’s Church. The instrumental program, under the direction of Milton resident Mark Snyder, featured both a beginning band and a more experienced band in a variety of pieces, from “Hot Cross Buns” to “Hang on Sloopy.” Following the bands, students in grades 1-7, under the direction of music teacher Julie Fay, sang patriotic and spiritual songs, including “Yankee Doodle,” “An Old Irish Blessing,’ and “Pescador de Hombres.” Principal Lisa Fasano led the students and parents in a special recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, in honor of Flag Day.
Tucker Egg-citement
Fourth grade Tucker students and parents gathered on the playground on Friday, June 17, for the annual engineering design process egg drop contest. Students had constructed protective containers for their eggs following specific guidelines. Teacher Debra Fidrocki, leaning out a second-story window, announced the name on each egg container, and then dropped it to the asphalt below. Teacher Alex Sewall unpackaged the eggs, some of which were intact, and some of which were scrambled upon impact. All fourth-grade engineers cheered, clapped and commiserated as appropriate throughout the event.
