Young Readers Surpass Goal

Congratulations to all of Milton’s young readers who participated in the “One World, Many Stories” Summer Reading Club at the . Together, Milton’s bookworms, ages 3 through grade 7, logged 113,796 minutes of reading, surpassing the town-wide goal of 100,000 minutes. In honor of the achievement, the Milton Rotary Club made a donation to Heifer International.
Youth Orchestra, Choruses Announce Auditions

South Shore Conservatory announces auditions for the Bay Youth Symphony orchestra program on Wednesdays in September by appointment. In addition, the Conservatory is holding open rehearsals for its Pure Treble and Pure Harmony student choruses on September 12 and 19. All events take place at the Conservatory’s Duxbury campus. Curry Welcomes Freshmen
President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr., alumnus Dana Panepinto and several other Curry community representatives welcomed the class of 2015 during Curry's New Student Convocation on August 30, 2011.
Keynote speaker Panepinto, the General Sales Manager and Director of Sports Sales at Sports Radio WEEI - Boston, stressed to the incoming class the importance of making good choices, most importantly the choice to be persistent.
"College is when your life changes,” said Panepinto. “Most of you are away from home for the first time. You are considering your futures
and you'll have many decisions to make on your own. Be thoughtful ...life is about making decisions; the path you follow is about making these decisions. Be smart; make the right decisions, not necessarily the easy ones. And remember, as an unknown author once wrote, 'The temptation to quit is greatest just before you succeed.'"
Irene Causes Collicot/Cunningham Phone System Hang-ups
As of September 1, the automated phone and voice mail systems at and schools were not functioning due to effects from tropical storm Irene. In a notice published on the school’s website, the schools' direct phone numbers were given, along with contact email addresses for non-emergency communications. The situation was expected to be resolved in seven to ten days. Click here to read the notice.
New Technology and Math Courses at MHS
The Business & Technology Education department is offering Tech Essentials, a new, required course for all incoming students. Covering keyboarding, Microsoft Office 2007, and Web 2.0 applications, the class is designed to prepare students to use technology for work assigned in all academic areas.
As part of the implementation of a new mathematics curriculum for grades 6-12, Algebra 1 with Geometry and Statistics (Course 1) and Algebra 2 with Geometry and Statistics (Course 2) are being offered at the high school this year.
Milton High Seeks Robotics Enthusiasts
The first meeting of the Milton High Robotics team will be held Thursday, September 8 after school in the Science Department Office. The team plans to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge along with schools from all over New England, with a chance to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Event in St. Louis in April 2012.
