Milton Approves $3.1M Property Tax Increase

Voters approved a Proposition 2 1/2 override in the special election Tuesday.

MILTON, MA – Voters in Milton approved a Proposition 2 1/2 override in the special town election Tuesday, marking a $3.1 million property tax increase. The vote passed with 3,484 in favor and 2782 against.

Voter turnout was 33.5 percent, which was "extremely low" for an override vote, Town Clerk Susan Galvin told the Patriot Ledger.

The tax increase will fund the budgets of various town departments, with the largest share of $1.7 million going to the public school system.

The override will increase the annual property tax on an average home in Milton by about $378, for a total increase of $630 when increases allowed by Proposition 2 1/2 are added, the Patriot Ledger reported.
