Milton Boy Scouts Celebrate 100 Years!

Boy Scout Troop 3 is celebrating its Centennial and Eagle Court of Honor on June 20

One hundred years ago, a group of young men founded Boy Scout Troop 3 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton. Hundreds of youth have participated in the Troop since that time, fulfilling the purpose of Scouting by developing from boys in to young men of character through leadership and service.

From the beginning, the Troop’s members have donated thousands of hours of service to the town of Milton and surrounding areas. Scouts have collected items for the food pantry, painted the Girl Scout meeting house, held blood drives, and created outdoor play spaces at Collicot Elementary School. The troop’s two most recent Eagle Scouts--whose Court of Honor we will soon celebrate--built fencing for a food garden at Franklin Park Zoo, and repaired the St. Mary of the Hill’s Parish meditation labyrinth.

On Saturday, June 20, at 2:30 in the afternoon, Troop 3--whose sponsorship has moved around over its long history--will return to St. Michael’s to observe the roop’s centennial and celebrate the Court of Honor for its 116th and 117th Eagle Scouts, David Buchanan and William Zalewski. We invite Troop 3 alums, Scouts and Scouters alike, to come and join us in celebrating 100 years of Troop 3 Milton Scouting. Scoutmaster Emeritus John Cronin, whose time as Scoutmaster spanned three decades, will be the keynote speaker. Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP to troop3centennial@gmail.com or contact Mike Vhay at 617-698-2826.
