Milton High Boys Golf Continues Hot Streak

The boys golf team is 2-1 in its last three matches.

The Milton High School boys golf team kept its early season turnaround going in the right direction with a 68-40 victory over Braintree at Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton on Monday.

Milton stumbled out of the gate with two losses to upper echelon Bay State Conference teams, but after the win on Monday the team has won two of its last three matches.

"The kids are starting to play well and we have a lot of new players on the team so they are starting to play better," said head coach Kevin Taylor.

On Monday it was a pair of seniors that carried some of the younger players to victory.

Malachy Maloney was the low man with an even-par 36, while Will England fired a 2-over 38. The two played together in a group and took home 20 points in match play to Braintree's seven.

Brian Higgins and Jack Davis teamed up to dominate their match, 21.5 to 5.5.

Taylor said his team was trailing by a point after the first two matches finished on the ninth, but it was the four golfers that helped his team secure a wide-margined victory.

The team splits time between Ponkapoag and Wollaston Golf Club, with most of the matches coming at the former rather than the latter, which may have sparked the recent successes.

"Ponkapoag is a little bit more comfortable because we play there more," said Taylor. "We don't play Wollaston too much so it's not really a huge advantage for us."

Milton will have a chance to continue its turnaround with two more matches this week. Milton will travel to Natick on Tuesday and will host Newton North on Thursday.
