Milton High Principal Announces Retirement

Dr. John Drottar, recently announced he will retire from the Milton Public Schools after a career in Milton that began in 1977.

After 34 years in the Milton Public Schools, Dr. John Drottar, principal of , has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Dr. Drottar made the announcement to his staff last week. He has been principal of Milton High School since 2002. Prior to becoming principal, Dr. Drottar taught math at Milton High School and Cunningham Junior High School.

“I plan to take some time to enjoy the autumn and do something interesting,” said Dr. Drottar. He mentioned hiking he Appalachian Trail as a possibility, or exploring other opportunities.

“Since I started school in first grade, every September has been about school -- either going to school or returning as a teacher,” he said. “It is time to take a moment to reflect.”

Dr. Drottar worked two years as a teacher before coming to Milton in 1977. After teaching junior high math for two years, he moved to Milton High School, where he has remained as a teacher, math department head and finally, principal.

“The time has come,” he said. “When I first started out in teaching, I promised myself that I would quit when it stopped being fun. Well, that never happened in 36 years, so I decided, at this point in my life, it’s time to wrap it up and explore the other opportunities that life offers.”

Dr. Drottar is married with three children and one grandchild.
