Milton High Students Heading to State Competition

Two teams of Milton High students will participate in the Massachusetts LifeSmarts competition.

Ten Milton High students recently learned that they have earned the right to compete in a statewide competition to test their consumer and marketplace knowledge.

Two Milton teams will travel to the Massachusetts LifeSmarts competition on March 8th, to be held at the Boston Federal Reserve Bank. The first team, led by Captain Mona Yuan, consists of Jack Caljou, Aaron Chiu, Patrick Kelly, and Devon Stanley. The second team, led by Captain Jon Maher, consists of Emily Hutchinson, Nick Juzyca, Mike Musto and Annie Schindler.

The students, coached by Paul Arenburg, qualified for this statewide competition due to their high scores in the online TeamSmarts State Pre-Competition test, which was a 60-minute online test.

“Your teams had great scores in the online competition, and your players are to be commended for the great breadth of consumer knowledge that they demonstrated,” said Deb Bloomberg, State Coordinator for the event, sponsored by the National Consumers League. We are excited to see your team advance to the state competition.”

At the in-person competition on March 8, the students will participate in individual written topic assessments; live competition matches; and team activities.

LifeSmarts teaches teens to be smart and responsible consumers and citizens by focusing on five key areas of consumer knowledge: Personal Finance, Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Health and Safety, Technology and the Environment. The program aims to change behavior toward better decision-making and use of money, as well as to provide teens with a good understanding of their consumer rights and responsibilities.
