The EOD technicians spent almost three hours carefully disabling the apparatus. The home, located on Craig Street off Blue Hill Avenue, is now safe, the Milton Police Department reported.

“We want to thank the residents of the Craig Street neighborhood for your patience and help today,” the Milton Police Department wrote on Facebook. “This was an isolated and unusual event, but no citizens outside of this dwelling were ever in danger as this operation took place.”

The device would have set off if someone turned on a light switch in the home, according to NBC News.

The apparatus was discovered when the homeowner, his attorney and an electrician were doing a home inspection, Milton Police Chief Richard G. Wells Jr. told NBC News.

The homeowner rented out the property and the most recent residents moved out last weekend, the Globe reported.

Detectives at Milton Police Department are investigating the incident. Anyone with information can contact Detective Mike Dillon at mdillon@mpdmilton.org.
