Milton Kindergarten Worker Charged With Indecent Assault Of Child

School officials earlier this month said a staff member of Cunningham Elementary School was placed on leave.

MILTON, MA – A Milton kindergarten worker has been charged with indecent assault and battery of a child under 14, the Norfolk District Attorney's office said. John O'Connor, 55, a Milton resident and kindergarten paraprofessional at Cunningham Elementary School, was placed on leave earlier this month.

In a letter to the Milton school community earlier this month, Superintendent Mary Gormley said a member of the Cunningham staff had been placed on leave but did not identify O'Connor until he was charged. In a subsequent letter Friday, Gormley wrote there is believed to have been an "isolated incident involving one child," according to WCVB.

O'Connor pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court Friday. He was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail.

Should he post bail he is prohibited from contacting the victim or the victim's family and prohibited from unsupervised contact with children under 16 other than his own. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim's residence and comply with any and all DCF orders, the Norfolk DA's office said.

The alleged contact is believed to have occurred on school grounds, authorities said. O'Connor will next appear in court June 1 for a pre-trial conference.
