Milton Police Reiterate Warning Of Scam Targeting Elderly
Milton police said a scam that tries to convince grandparents to send money to help grandchildren in trouble claimed another victim in town.
MILTON, MA — Milton police are reiterating a warning not to give money to people who contact you unsolicited after a town grandmother was convinced to pay $13,000 to scammers after they claimed her grandson had been involved in a car accident outside of the country. Police said this is the latest case of similar scams targeting elderly in the area.
In this case, a grandmother received a message from her grandson saying the he had been in the accident in Cancun, and that he needed $13,000 to pay off the driver. The person posing as her grandson told the grandmother not to tell the mother and father.
The Milton grandmother paid the initial money, but balked when scammers came back for additional funds the next day. The grandmother then told her family and they told her to contact police.
