Milton Public Schools Names Cunningham Elementary School Principal
Piece Assistant Principal Dr. Karen Spaulding takes the new role July 1
Milton Public Schools announced Friday that, Dr. Karen Spaulding has been hired as the Cunningham Elementary School Principal, effective July 1.
"Dr. Spaulding will be a strong instructional leader of the Cunningham Elementary School," said Superintendent Mary Gormley in a release from the school. "Her appointment is a great-news story for the Milton Public Schools and the Cunningham students, staff, parents and guardians."
Spaulding will replace Christine Gerber, who has taken a position with the Cambridge Public Schools.

Spaulding has been the Assistant Principal at Pierce Middle School since 2008. She came to Pierce after serving as acting Principal of Asa P. Morse Elementary School in Cambridge. Prior to that, she taught in Hudson, N.H. and Cambridge.
Before entering the field, Spaulding earned her bachelor's degree in Middle School Math/Science Education from Lesley College in Cambridge; her master's degree in Middle School Science Education from Simmons College in Boston; and her doctoral degree from UMass/Boston's Leadership in Urban Schools' Doctoral Program.

In the same release, School Committee Chair Lynda-Lee Sheridan echoed Gormley's sentiments. "We are thrilled and excited that she will be our new principal at Cunningham," said Sheridan. "Dr. Spaulding has proven herself to be a strong academic leader and we look forward to working with her in her new role."
