Milton Students Earn Art Awards

Artists from Milton High School and Pierce Middle school earned high honors at the the 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards.

A group of students from and have earned some of the highest honors from the 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards.

At Milton High: Two Gold Keys were awarded to Bridget Mahan, one for Photography and one for Photography Portfolio. Another Gold Key was awarded to Aoife Quinn for Sculpture, and  Emma Jehanno was also awarded a Gold Key for her Art Portfolio. A Silver Key was awarded to Margaretta Goltz for Drawing.

Honorable Mentions for Drawing were awarded to Gino Benjamin, Renee Chiu and Emma Jehanno; an Honorable Mention for Photography was awarded to Evan Jones; and an Honorable Mention for Painting was awarded to Caeleigh MacNeil.

At Pierce Middle School: Silver Keys for Painting were won by Mairead Danbruch and Joshua Kery. Honorable Mentions were won by Anne Marie Grudem for Painting and Lily  Melby for Printmaking; Kaitlin Reed won two Honorable Mentions, both in the Drawing category. 

"We are very proud of these students.  Their artwork was selected for these awards from over 14,000 entries!  Bravo!” said Noreen Diamond Burdett, head of Fine Arts & Family/Consumer Studies.

This annual art contest is open to students in Grades 7 to 12, with less than five percent winning the top honor, a Gold Key.

Students with Gold and Silver keys will have their work displayed at the Transportation Building. Gold Key winners’ works and portfolios will move on to the National Competition.
