Milton Teens 'Own the Night' This Summer
The Milton Public Library will hold a drop-in reading program for middle school and high school students this summer.

Milton teens and pre-teens are getting ready to “Own the Night” with the 2012 Summer Reading Program at the . Students entering grades 6-12 are invited to participate in the program, which is sponsored by Milton Public Library, the Friends of the Milton Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
Own the Night is a nine-week, drop-in reading program running from June 11 through August 13. Teens and pre-teens are invited to participate in the Summer Reading Program by reading and reviewing books. The program is designed to encourage leisure reading, which has repeatedly linked to high academic achievement in adolescent. The program also supports the summer reading required by Milton schools. In addition, Own the Night features a host of teen programs, including movies, Anime & Manga Club, a comic book workshop and more.
“We encourage all Milton junior and senior high school students to take part in Own the Night,” said the library’s Young Adult Librarian, Emily Calkins. “We hope participants will explore our fantastic young adult collection! We have great books for fans of The Hunger Games and plenty of other wonderful, non-dystopian fiction too. We’ve also coordinated with the Milton Public Schools to ensure that we have at least one copy of the required summer reading titles, so participants will have an abundance of books to choose from.”

Teens who complete the program by reading and reviewing five or more books during the summer will each receive a paperback book to keep. Everyone who completes the program will be entered in to a grand prize drawing to win a Nook Color. Additionally, all program participants will have the chance to win books, gift certificates to local businesses, t-shirts, and more during weekly raffles.
Online registration for Own the Night is can be completed via the teen page of the library’swebsite. Registration opens June 11th and will remain open until August 6t h. Own the Night Participants have until August 24th to log their reading and write reviews.
