Milton's Christina Gioioso Awarded Rockland Trust Scholarship

The Ursuline Academy alumna was named as one of the 11 recipients of the program this year.

MILTON, MA — Milton native Christina Gioioso was named as one of the 11 recipients of Rockland Trust's 2020 Scholarship Program.

Gioioso — selected from an applicant pool of 2,000 — was chosen based on her academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and an essay on the importance of community service.

The scholarship program was open to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college and who reside in the communities served by Rockland Trust.

The Ursuline Academy alumna plans to study business with concentrations in accounting and finance at Cornell University.

"Rosie's Place solidified my belief that the future must be different than it is today," Gioioso told Rockland Trust. "It showed me that volunteerism is crucial to realizing that these women deserve better, and was as society can do better. Rosie's Place would not have had as profound an impact had it not been for my willingness to listen and to be changed, the same receptiveness that I will bring to the workforce and college."

Rockland Trust typically hosts a ceremony to commemorate the winners of the scholarship program. This year, the ceremony will not take place due to the coronavirus crisis. Each student will instead be highlighted on Rockland Trust's social media pages throughout the summer.

"Despite not being able to hold our ceremony this year, we wanted to make sure these students were still recognized for their tremendous accomplishments," said Christopher Oddleifson CEO of Rockland Trust. "Each one of these inspiring young adults has already made a meaningful impact in their community and we're proud to support them as they take another step toward achieving their dreams."
