Passing of Pierce Guidance Counselor: 'A Tremendous Loss'
Emily Ayre, a guidance counselor at Pierce Middle School, died this week.

In an email sent to parents on Friday morning, Milton Public School Superintendent Mary Gormley announced that guidance counselor Emily Ayre has died.
The email did not specify how Ayre died, but was sent to inform members of the MPS community of the loss.
“Please know that we as a school and school system feel the enormity of this tragedy,” Gormley wrote. “Emily’s death is a tremendous loss, not only for our faculty and staff, but also for the students and families whose lives she has touched over the past two years.”

On Monday, August 15, Pierce Middle School will host Maria Trozzi, M.Ed., the director of Good Grief Program at Boston Medical Center, at 7 p.m. The meeting, for parents and guardians only, will provide tips and strategies for communicating with children about the tragedy.
A memorial service for Ayre will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ 36 Main Street, New Milford, CT 06776.
