Pierce Middle School Student Will be Arraigned Today

School was placed in lockdown yesterday after school officials reported someone might have a gun.

A 15-year-old Pierce Middle School student will be arraigned in Quincy District Court today for disorderly conduct and making threats to commit a crime.

Pierce was placed on lockdown around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday after school officials reported that a specific individual might have a gun.

"At that point in time we (the Milton Police Department) searched the building," said Deputy Chief Charles Paris.

Students were asked to stay in their classrooms until about 2:45 p.m. Paris said no one was in danger during the lockdown.

The search, which used gun-sniffing dogs, did not turn up a weapon, but the student was uncooperative in the investigation.

"He wasn't talking," Paris said. "He was belligerent and confrontational. That's what got him arrested."

Police did not search the individual's home following the unfruitful investigation at the school. Paris said a further search was not undertaken because there was not enough evidence to attain a search warrant at that time.

The student was taken into custody and held by the Department of Youth Services until his arraignment, which is not open to the public because the subject is a juvenile. Paris said that the department has dealt with this individual in the past for behavioral issues both in and out of school.

Paris said students at Pierce returned to school as normal this morning.
