Timilty Announces Reelection Bid
Walter F. Timilty, the current state senator for the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District, announced his decision to run for re-election.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve the hardworking people who call our district home,” said Timilty. “I look forward to continuing my dedication to our communities by putting the needs and concerns of the people I am privileged to represent at the forefront of my work.”
Since he was first sworn in to the Massachusetts State Senate in January 2017, Timilty has worked to affect positive change through the legislative process.

Timilty secured critical funding in the Fiscal Year 2018 budget to empower nine local substance abuse prevention coalitions to combat the deadly epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose. Additional funds secured by Timilty in the FY18 budget will support the Blue Hills Trailside Museum in Canton in its role as an asset to school groups and visitors from across the region.
Timilty co-founded the State Legislature’s Fair Skies Caucus to work towards the implementation of a fair and equitable solution to the public health risk posed by flight traffic. Legislation filed by Timilty will require the Massachusetts Department of Health to undertake a study of the effects of overhead flights on local populations.

“I am proud to advocate for the residents of the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District and to serve as their voice in the State Senate,” said Timilty. “I strive to listen to the obstacles facing our neighborhoods and to use my experience in state government to confront these problems and provide workable solutions.”
Additional pieces of legislation filed by Timilty will strengthen the background check process for prospective employees of approved private special education schools to better protect students and establish technical rescue regions to further enable emergency services personnel to respond efficiently and effectively to crises requiring specialized equipment and training.
As Senate chairman of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, Timilty oversaw the creation of a new cabinet position aimed at strengthening cyber security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“The voters in our district put their trust in my ability to serve in the State Senate on their behalf,” said Timilty. “I do not take that trust for granted, and I look forward to continuing my tireless efforts to make lasting contributions to our communities.”
