Year in Review: Milton Public Schools

A look back at the year 2011 in the Milton Public Schools.

As always, the Milton Public Schools were bubbling with activity in 2011. As we near the end of the year, let’s take a look back at the past year in school news.

The year started off with a proposal for at Milton High School: rugby and crew. While the School Committee expressed some concerns over adding activities in the face of financial cutbacks, both programs began this spring.

In April, over 800 educators and parents gathered for the largest MFE fundraiser of the year, the . The Celebration for Education took over the Boston Marriot Quincy for an evening of food, fun, and most importantly for the Milton Public Schools, fundraising.

The MFE held it’s annual in May, honoring seven teachers—one from each of the Milton Public Schools and one winner of the district-wide Mary Grassa O’Neill Leadership Award.

The final chapter of the 2010-2011 school year came with Milton High School . The district also said farewell to a long-time educator: . Drottar worked in Milton for 34 years including serving as MHS principal since 2002.

As the 2011-2012 year began, two familiar faces returned to leadership positions. Dr. Joe Arangio, Jr. took the position of at Milton High School after previously holding the post from 1997 to 2002.

The Collicot School also welcomed a former employee as principal. , who was a teacher and assistant principal at Collicot before working as a principal in Cohasset, returned to the school to become principal.

There have been plenty of things happening already this school year in the MPS from the student-production of at Milton High, to countless sporting events, academic achievements and community events.
