Dug Pond: A Healing

Dear Friends, Many thanks and congratulations to the more than 20 students from Natick HS who participated in Saturday's (10/5) Clean-up of Dug Pond.  The eight collaboration in the last two years  between the Natick HS Earth Club and Lake Cochituate Watershed Council - Big Heart Little Feet, has resulted in a Pond, Island, and Shoreline about 95% free of trash, beer bottles, cans, etc. which formerly characterized certain abused areas.  A Healing to be sure. The leadership of Linda Nguyen, Raghu Bhardwaj, Mr. Milch and other members of the Earth Club is making a huge difference in this space.  What's truly exciting is the fact that Natick HS has established a relationship as chief steward and protector of the Pond.  I also got terrific assists from fellow BHLF Trail Buddies Jill Macglaflin, George Eckert, Sam McCauley, and David Parnas.  We still have some work to do along the Campus Drive shoreline, and we have to find a way to stop folks from "girdling" the lovely white birch trees on the island, and setting fires.   Nonetheless the Pond and Island are absolutely exquisite; get out there and see for yourself.  --Pat
