GreenSafe Neighbors Part 4

Hi Friends,
You've got to help us.  Many people are working hard to improve our Natick Trails and the health of our local waterways (local streams, The Charles and Sudbury Rivers, and Lake Cochituate).  An alarming number of people still don't understand how toxic pet waste is to our watershed and environment.  Not to mention the fields on which our kids play sports.
Help me here.  Let's spread the word to pick up after your dog.  A simple courtesy.  Easy and cheap to do.  Just use a recycled newspaper or plastic grocery bag, then put it in the trash.  Don't compost.  Don't put it in a storm drain.  Don't throw it out into the woods or leave it on the trail.  Simple as that.
Although in the next few months the Natick Trails Maintenance Committee will deploy real mutt mitt stations at all our Natick Trailheads, I've established "place holder" mutt mitt stations now at Natick Town Forest (Oak St. Trailhead), Pegan Cove, and Coolidge Field / Woods.  I could use more newspaper bags to restock.  A good friend, LCWC Member, and Trail Buddy, Bob Severance, saves his bags for me.  Let me know if you'd like to help.
Quick update: The Natick Town Forest trail leading in from the Oak St. Trailhead: horrible.  More than two dozen dog piles within the first 200 feet of trail.  By contrast: Coolidge Field and Woods area: a marked improvement.  Only a little trailside litter, no pet waste.  And this area was absolutely horrendous two winters ago with dog poop everywhere.  Thanks for listening.  --Pat
