Memorial Beach Opens June 9

Dig your swim trunks out of the back of the closet and stock up on SPF 50, it's almost time for Dug Pond's Memorial Beach to reopen for the season.

This summer, admission fees for adults (age 18 and older) are $30 for residents and $60 for non-residents. Children age 2 to 17 cost $20 per resident and $40 per non-resident and senior citizens age 62 and older cost $15. Family passes cost $90 for one adult and four or more children or $100 for two adults and three or more children.

If your child will turn two years old before July 1, 2012, you must purchase a tag. Children who will be under 2 years old are admitted for free, but parents must show the child's birth certificate when they purchase their own adult tags. Children under age 10 will not be admitted without supervision of someone at least 14 years old.

Daily resident passes cost $3 for children, $5 for adults and $1 for senior citizens. Daily non-resident passes cost $6 for children, $10 for adults, and $1 for senior citizens.

The summer schedule for Memorial Beach is as follows:

June 9, 10, 16, 17 (weekends): 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

June 11-21 (weekdays): 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

June 22-Aug. 12 (weekdays): 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Aug. 13-19 (tentatively) (weekends): 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

 

Recreation and parks is looking for summer staff and volunteer swim aids to help give swim lessons this season. If you are interested, call Dan Keefe at 508-647-6530.

American Red Cross swim classes will be held weekdays at the beach for those age 3 and older. The cost of the classes does not include the beach tag. Registration is first come, first serve, before the start of each session. The swim lesson schedule is as follows (full details available after June 11):

Session 1: June 25-July 6 (9 days), $27

Session 2: July 9-July 27 (3 weeks), $42

Session 3: July 30-Aug. 10 (2 weeks), $32
