Volunteers Create for a Cause at Sew Easy in Needham

Lauren Johnston, owner of in Needham and Wellesley, called out for volunteers to come and sew little dresses made out of pillowcases so that they may be shipped to girls in the Dominican Republic.

One evening in July, some 25 children, women and men turned out to help. The event was so successful, Johnston decided to do it again the following week, and 30 people came.

Now called "Creating for a Cause," the program takes place most Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. at Sew Easy's Needham location, 908 Great Plain Ave.

But there's actually more to the story.

A few months ago, Johnston ran into a past student of hers, Maggy Holly, now 20, who delivers medical supplies to the Dominican Republic and mentioned that she was "still using her sewing skills" to make these pillowcase dresses for the children there.
